Multnomah County Library Birthday

multnomah librarySince we were speaking of libraries (last post), this is worth noting. The Multnomah County Library celebrated its 150th anniversary Saturday.  It’s the oldest library west of the Mississippi.

Not only that, but it’s one of the few libraries with a top rating. Check this article out.

A fine-looking building, many times the size of the one here in Alvin, Texas.

MCL’s high rating is based on four criteria, the most important of which is circulation. I’m glad to say my wife and I have done our part. Between us, we typically have at least 100 items (books, CDs and DVDs) checked out, and on some occasions have had close to 300. We unsung heroes also serve.

And a lovely, dignified building it is. In our community, we have three branches. They do a pretty good job of having the books I want to read and a system where I can reserve them. They also have music, tools, DVDs, public computers, magazines, etc. We are at the one closest to us at least 2-3 times a week since it makes a nice walk.

  4. Beautiful. We’ve got a nice new St. Tammany library. I’m heading over as soon as I can to have a look around.
