Thank you Jerry, Jeff, Prashant, George and Charles. We watched the Rose Parade, and pretty soon it’ll be football time.

Our plan was to watch the ball fall in Times Square on TV, but it didn’t work out too well. The two-hour lead-in shows, with much chatter and a few music acts, starts here at 1:00 am NY time, so it’s really already over. Midnight tape delayed. Then, because of the timing, the networks cut it out at 11:00 for a half hour newscast (because apparently the 4:00, 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts was not enough local news). By the time it came back on – now at 2:30 am NY time – things were wrapping up and the talk was all about the great stuff we missed during the news. Then a quick countdown, the ball “drops” and the credits roll. Bah. Went to bed and then the neighbors launched an artillery and gunfire barrage, really fireworks rockets and firecrackers, but noisy as hell. It all just seemed weird, in spite of bubbly and all.

  8. Happy New Year, Richard! Hope you and Barbara have an amazing 2014.
