Okay, so it’s not really a birthday, it’s one of those anniversary of his birth, as of yesterday, 325 years ago. whoopee and all that.
Hey, Handel was a world-class composer, and he wrote some music every one of us has heard (The Messiah, anyone?) and some many have heard (Water Music, Royal Fireworks) and a lot of it that’s obscure (“Zadok, the Priest”).
So pull some Handel from your shelves, and get listening. I am.
Not a great fan of the “Water Music,” but definitely of Handel, a very good argument for welcoming immigrants all by himself. Thanks for the reminder.
One of my husband’s favorites. I like the romantic composers better. Handel, Haydn, their musuc always sound like court music to my ears.
Who?!?!
Just kidding! At least I resisted all the ‘handel’ puns that are coursing through my head.
I love his Messiah, beautiful stuff.
Today is also Abe Vigoda’s birthday, in case you were wondering.
😉
Weren’t he and Handel related?
